    Holiday Party Planning Done Right

    As we approach the vacation season, often awash with holiday parties, it got me thinking about how employees are rewarded. Actually one of the chief reasons for hosting a company vacation party is to reward staff for their difficult work and dedication, and there might be money reasons as well.&nbsp ;

    a vacation party does something else too. It creates a space for employees and management to get together not as employees, but as mates. It offers a chance for people to get together and luxuriate in the company of the people you work with without worrying about the final analysis, which is something that might not occur much throughout the year. Sure there could be fiscal benefits ( see the article linked above ), but this is essentially attained by making a little bit of goodwill that goes a good way. It lets your workers know that you place a value on them and their work. So when I see that companies are deciding against doing a party due to the economy I fret about the message this sends to&nbsp ; workers, lots of whom doubtless look forward to and expect some variety of year end celebration. When times are tough, which indubitably is the case in many industries, it’s especially crucial to show employees you care.

    If you normally do a luxurious celebration, naturally it’s understandable that you’d cut back a touch, but do not get rid of the party altogether. Do it smaller, simpler and smarter. You can change the scale without destroying the event. If you usually hire a celebrity comedian, for example, think about using local talent. If you typically do an indulgent meal, do a smorgasboard, or a potluck. My point is do something. If you can afford to use vacation party entertainment, I’d definitely suggest it. Using a corporate comedian is a good way to get peoples’s minds off the economy for 45-60 mins and it gives your visitors a common experience to talk ( and joke ) about for approaching months and leaves everyone feeling a little better ( nicely in time for the vacations ).
